Good morning, Families,
I hope you enjoyed your weekend! We had some gorgeous weather. :)
This week in class, we move on from characters and fiction and begin learning to read non-fiction text. We will be learning this within the context of texts about dangerous weather. This week, we learn how to infer from non-fiction, determining the main idea of text, and identifying the text structure of a non-fiction piece. This text structure will be hit hard in fourth grade, so the kids should expect to see this a lot. In math, we are learning multiple strategies to multiply larger numbers. Please keep practicing those facts. Kids should be completing about 10-15 minutes of work on Xtramath each night to assist in this. In social studies, we will be giving our thoughts on what happened to the Lost Colony, discussing how and by whom each of the 3 regions of NC was settled and we will discuss NC's role in many of the US's wars.
I'll be sending out a SignUp Genius today for fall conferences to be held next week. If you prefer a phone conference or another date, just let me know and I will work with you. :)
We will not have school next Monday in honor of Labor Day. We track out on September 8 and return to school October 2. Report Cards will go home on Friday, October 6. This is a change from other years when you received report cards on track out day. This change enables us to work until the last day and get as much content included in report cards as possible. :)
Thank you!!
Stephanie
